Mid Century Japanese Ceramic Angelfish Sake Server or Oil Cruet

Angelfish represent the promise of abundance and a happy life. We think these hand painted beauties look spectacular on this small oil cruet or as we see it, a sake server for one. The gold painted "O" at the top is for "oil". This was part of an oil and vinegar cruet set. One tiny chip at the neck but nothing that would get in the way of pouring up some sake or oil as the case may be. Metallic gold, black and red accents on an off white ground.
Made in Japan. Stamped with a woodpecker design "w 2 w Japan" and the number "22".

It stands 5 1/4" tall and is about 1 5/8" wide at the opening.
