Mid Century Matte Black Couroc Plate with Wood Inlay Cat Design

Sorry, this item has sold.

Made by Couroc of Monterey, California probably in the 1960's, this round decorative tray is made with a wood inlay of a stylized cool mod cat.

Couroc made their pieces in black satin phenolic. Most are inlaid with brass and paint. What makes this one unusual to me is the matte black finish not the traditional shiny black that you normally see in Couroc pieces. The cat inlay design is created with light and dark wood and brass inlay for the eyes and whiskers.

Four raised feet on the bottom of the plate. It measures 10 1/2" across. There are some scratches, one that is more prominent as seen in photo 3. If anyone has any ideas on what to use to buff it out, please let me know. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Do not put in the dishwasher.
