Vintage Mexican Ceramic Sgraffito Black Bird Figurine

Sorry, this item has sold.

"Black bird singing in the dead of night" - And does she sing!

This beautiful ceramic bird was decorated using sgraffito (in Italian "to scratch"), a pottery technique produced by applying layers of color to leather hard pottery and then scratching off parts of the layer(s) to create contrasting images, patterns and texture which reveal the natural clay color underneath. The overall black glaze is indicative of pottery from the Oaxaca region of Mexico. She'd make a nice gift for a a special bird watcher on your list. Some small scratches in the glaze mostly on the bottom but no chips or cracks. Overall in good vintage condition.

Our feathered friend stands 7" in length and is 4" tall and approximately 2 1/2" deep. Made in Mexico.
